Are there many truck driving jobs available in rural Kentucky?
Much of rural Kentucky is where the state’s agricultural industry is flourishing. The farming, cattle ranching, and mining industries all rely heavily on truck drivers to transport their products. Thus, there are plenty of truck driving jobs all over Kentucky.

What happens if I lose my CDL?
Your CDL can be replaced through your local driver’s license office. There may be a fee to obtain a replacement.

How much does it cost to renew my CDL in the state of Kentucky?
It costs approximately $50 to renew your CDL in the state of Kentucky. Endorsements will cost additional fees.

How often must I renew my CDL?
In the state of Kentucky, you must renew your CDL every two years. You will be required to take the CDL test and pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam.

How will I know when it is time to renew my CDL?
You will receive renewal information in the mail. You must have the DOT physical exam, and bring appropriate paperwork, including your identification, to the City Court Clerk’s office.

Are there any minimal training requirements to obtain a CDL?
No, there are no minimal training requirements to obtain a CDL in Kentucky. Many attend truck driving school in order to help them pass the exams that are required to obtain a CDL.

Can my CDL be suspended?
Yes. A CDL may be suspended for driving under the influence, and for major traffic violations. Suspensions can last from a minimum of 24 hours to the rest of your life, depending on why you were suspended.

If I am looking for a good job in the trucking industry, how important is experience?
Experience is very important. The more years of experience you have, the more likely you are to earn a larger income. Some truck driving companies prefer hiring drivers with three or four years of experience.

Are there many regional jobs in Kentucky?
Yes. Kentucky is surrounded by several states and there are many large cities in and around Kentucky. Nashville, Knoxville, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Springfield, Charleston, and Columbus are all major cities that are relatively close in distance to the state of Kentucky.

Is it easy to find a truck driving job in Kentucky?
The truck driving industry in most states, including Kentucky, is doing very well. The economy is continually growing, which means more truck driving jobs are being created and as the agricultural industry and other industries in the state continue to increase, so will the need for qualified truck drivers in the state of Kentucky. The more training, experience, and qualifications you have, the more likely you are to find a job in the industry. Obtaining endorsements is another way to improve the chances of finding a job in the truck driving industry.
